7 Feng Shui Mistakes you’re Making in the Bathroom

Here are 7 Feng Shui mistakes that many people are making right this minute. Bathrooms can really be a drain on the energy of your home, and making these Feng Shui errors is a trap for the unwary, to be sure. Fear not, however, as most of these fixes are either free, or almost free to execute. If you’re selling your home, you should definitely handle these things — fast.

Location, Location Location!

The location of your bathroom is crucial. In the olden days, when Feng Shui was invented, people didn’t have indoor plumbing, so the bathroom location was outside the home. Nowadays, the location of your bathroom can make or break your Feng Shui situation, because it occurs in one of the 8 Life Areas of the Bagua. And let me assure you, there’s really no good place for the bathroom. I’m only going to focus on the 2 most problematic areas in this post, but if you’re interested in learning about what to do if your bathroom falls in other areas, send me an email.

South

  • If your bathroom is located in the South of the home, it’s symbolically “dousing” your reputation. Why? Because in Feng Shui, the South is governed by the Fire element. A bathroom is a Water element. So, the bathroom is effectively “dousing” an area where there should be Fire. A quick fix is to add 9 red candles, on a (fireproof) plate. Nine is the number of the Fame sector, red is the color, and Fire is the element. So this is a triple whammy fix.

  • Now, the trouble with this fix is that the Water of the bathroom is going to keep on dousing the Fire, so you also need to add Earth. Earth moves Water out of its way. So, it has control over Water. Read on for some great “Earth” fixes.

Southeast

  • If your bathroom is in the Southeast sector of your home, this is also a huge no-no. The Southeast is the Wealth area of your home, and it’s governed by Wood. You’re symbolically “flushing your Wealth” if your bathroom is in the Southeast. If you were paying attention to the the cycle of Elements (Water, Earth, Wood, Fire, Metal), you might say “But if a bathroom is a Water element, isn’t it “nourishing” the Wood of the Southeast?” Well, yes, and no. The bathroom is about getting rid of waste, so the Water in the bathroom is “dirty”. So, you really don’t want “dirty energy” in your Wealth corner. So, what to do? Read on, for some easy fixes:

Colors

Adding these elements to the bathroom will help mitigate the location in the Southeast: Wood, Water, and Earth. You can bring in your choice of color with paint, art that depicts the element, or items in the color of the element, such as bathroom accessories.

  • Wood: Brown, Green

  • Water: Blue, Black

  • Earth: Beige, Yellow, and certain types of Orange (think Sedona, Arizona).

lucky bamboo, dracaena, feng shui, wealth plant

Lucky Bamboo

Lucky Bamboo

8 stalks of lucky bamboo (actually Dracaena Sanderiana) are considered a good Feng Shui cure for wealth and abundance. They are also easy to care for, and leave a small footprint. Plants are the Wood element in Feng Shui, and since they are alive, they are “growing Wood”, which is especially good for Wealth.

Crystals

Add a bowl of crystals – you can use multi colored crystals and combine several crystals such as citrine, pyrite, amethyst, and jade for a rich, energizing Feng Shui wealth cure. Earth helps “ground” the bathroom. Same goes for granite or marble countertops.

Images

Bring images of wealth (bathroom appropriate, of course!). This can be colorful photos, art posters, or fresh images from nature.

Spa-LIKE

Create a luxurious, spa like feel in your bathroom. Add new towels in beautiful colors. Go to HomeGoods and stroll down the bathroom aisle. Choose things that call to you.

Order

Keep the space clean and clutter-free. Be sure to have good quality air and good light, as these are the foundations of good energy.
