Lunar New Year festival 2023

January 22nd is Chinese New Year in 2023. Rabbits rule this year. To ensure abundance and prosperity, it is best to follow these traditions to the letter.

  • Before January 16th, decorate with fruiting lime trees and flowering plants to bring in tremendous growth energy.

1. Repair any damage

Fix leaky toilets, broken faucets, cracked roof tiles, and leaking ceilings. Water leaks can signify wealth and health loss.

Besides the main door, the area around your bedroom should be in tip top shape.

Paint your home every 4 to 5 years to start the year with a clean slate.

Take the time to spring clean. Having a cluttered environment makes any challenge worse. Discard damaged cutlery and plates. Make sure your clothing is in good condition. Donate anything you haven't worn in a year.

2. Restock your Kitchen

Dispose of expired food. Clean and dry your rice cooker, and place a red envelope with three dynasty coins tied with red thread at its base. Refill with new rice. Make sure there is enough food in the refrigerator to last for 15 days during Chinese New Year.

3. Feng Shui your home

Update the Feng Shui of your home after December 21st, 2022 (Winter Solstice) and before February 4th, 2023, which is the start of the solar year.

A salt cure is always a good idea to protect your home. Check out our blog post on how to create a salt cure.

Once you have updated the Feng Shui of your home, you can perform a space-cleansing ritual. Ask us for details.

4. Preparing cleansing water

Incorporate flowers that represent the Five Elements (The "Five Elements" are Fire (火; huǒ), Water (水; shuǐ), Wood (木; mù), Metal or Gold (金; jīn), and Earth or Soil (土; tǔ).)

Choose flowers that are:

(Blue (Water), Yellow (Earth), Green (Wood), Red (Fire), and White (Metal)) and leaves from the Kaffir limes (you can replace the leaves with fresh limes or lemons if you can't find the Kaffir leaves).

Place the flowers in a bowl of water and let them sit in the sun for 10 minutes before using them. Add one tablespoon of sea salt to the mix. After rinsing a cleaning cloth in the mixture, squeeze it dry, and wipe all good luck charms and remedies in your home. You can also use this water to clean your home altar, statues, and figurines.

5. Performing a space-cleansing ritual

Open all your windows and doors, and switch on all the lights. This should be done during the daytime. Light sandalwood incense with Kemenyen and one tablespoon of Purifying Incense powder in an incense burner.

The incense dissolves any negativity in the home and removes it. Leave the doors and windows open for at least 1 hour after the ritual. This will allow bad energy to leave the house and enable good luck energy to enter.

You can also perform a sage ceremony if you prefer.
